Ganja worth Rs 8 cr seized at Bhubaneswar Airport
In yet another major drug bust, ganja worth around Rs 8 crore has been seized at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
The contraband was being smuggled from Thailand via an IndiGo flight when it was intercepted by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).
The estimated value of the seized ganja is around Rs 8 crore. Authorities apprehended one accused in connection with the case, a resident of Ahmedabad.
As per sources, the contraband was smuggled after being covered with chocolate packets.
Investigations are ongoing to uncover further links in the international drug trafficking network.
Earlier this week, the Customs Department had seized hydroponic marijuana worth over Rs 30 crore from the Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar. The contraband, commonly referred to as ‘hydroponic weed’, was recovered from six bags arriving on a flight from Bangkok.

The seizure was made during a routine customs check after officers grew suspicious of the luggage carried by three passengers. Upon inspection, the bags were found to contain high-grade marijuana cultivated using the hydroponic technique, which involves growing cannabis in nutrient-rich water without soil.
The estimated market value of the seized marijuana is believed to be over Rs 1 crore per kilogram, making the total consignment worth approximately Rs 30 crore.
