The Commissionerate Police on Wednesday released a seven-point fitness guidelines for police personnel posted in Bhubaneswar urban police district (UPD) and directed them to attend regular morning PT, fitness and cleanliness of respective campus. 

According to the notification issued by the Bhubaneswar DCP, the guidelines will be applicable for police personnel attached to APR, DPO, CP Headquarters, Team 60 and OSAP Mobilized forces.

“Physical health and fitness are vitally important to every law enforcement department. Besides, as a police person there is higher risk of physical and mental health related issues due to the nature of hectic duty schedules. A healthy lifestyle allows to live a full life with meaning and purpose,” the notification read.

The police personnel under Bhubaneswar UPD have been directed to attend regular morning PT, fitness and cleanliness of their respective campus at 6 am and 4 pm as per convenience of duty.

Daily attendance will be taken during the PT session and the officers need to maintain an 80% attendance in a monthly average, the notification stated.

Besides, the police personnel will be given a weight target and it will be regularly monitored. Besides, physical improvement (weight target) records should be recorded in every fortnight. 

“The defaulters will be put up in orderly room and stress would be given to contain the use of tobacco products and alcohol,” the notification read. 

Moreover, emphasis will be given to ensure that police personnel look smart in uniform and work actively, the notification stated.

“Keeping yourself fit will keep lifestyle-related diseases like hypertension, blood pressure, sugar and others at bay. As a welfare measure, the guidelines have been issued. Due to heavy workload, many of our officers are ignoring their fitness. We will provide extra help like diet counselling to unfit cops,” said Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh.
