Freak accident kills 12-year-old boy in Ganjam

What began as a carefree day of laughter, play, and joy turned tragic in an instant. In a tragic incident, a young boy lost his life after being crushed under a falling boulder at Thalibada village under Jarada police limits in Ganjam on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as a seventh-class student who was the son of Bhima Shabar from Thalibada village.

According to reports, four friends were bathing in a stream near a hill. Suddenly, a massive boulder came loose and rolled down from the hill at lightning speed, trapping the 12-year-old boy underneath.

The hapless boy cried for help. In response, some villagers rushed to the spot and rescued him. They immediately took him to the nearby hospital for medical treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.

The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the entire village. Meanwhile, Jarada police have launched an investigation to determine how the boulder came loose and caused the fatal accident. 

According to the local people, the boulder fell from the hill due to the heavy rain in the area for the last couple of days.
