The CBI has charged four railway engineers in Rajgangpur, Odisha with cheating and forgery. The FIR, filed on 13th November 2023, follows Lok Pal's directive.

CBI

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a case of alleged cheating and forgery against a junior Indian Railways engineer and three former employees in Rajgangpur, Odisha. This marks a significant step following directives from India's anti-corruption ombudsman, the Lok Pal.

Investigation Initiated

A First Information Report (FIR) was registered on 13th November 2023 against the individuals, following instructions from the Lok Pal of India after a complaint was lodged last year. The complaint implicated the railway officials in alleged misconduct with a construction company.

Accusations Detailed

The accused include a former senior section engineer, a junior works engineer, and an electrical engineer, all previously working in Rajgangpur. The case also implicates a construction firm, though the identities of public servants involved remain undisclosed by the CBI to ensure confidentiality.

The charges relate to violations under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery), and 471 (use of forged documents), in conjunction with newly instituted sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Maintaining Anonymity

The FIR stresses the importance of confidentiality regarding the identities of those involved, as outlined in the Lok Pal's order on 4th March 2025, under Rule 4 of the Lok Pal (Complaint) Rules, 2020.

The misconduct allegations stem from activities in Rajgangpur, situated approximately 350 kilometres from the Odisha capital, Bhubaneswar.
