Condolences poured in from all quarters as former Odisha Health Minister and three-time Bhograi MLA Kamala Das passed away in Cuttack on Friday.

Das was 79. She breathed his last at a private hospital in Cuttack while undergoing treatment. She was admitted to the hospital around 12 days ago after being diagnosed with lungs infection.

Das was on ventilator at the hospital for the last three days while she passed away at around 12.30 am on Friday.

Das was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly thrice from Bhograi constituency under Balasore district from 1990-2004. She also worked as the Health Minister of Odisha.

Das’ last rites will be performed at Shankhari village today.

President Droupadi Murmu, BJP National VP Baijayant Panda and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik among others expressed their deepest condolences over the sad demise of Das.

“I am saddened to hear about the passing away of senior leader and former Minister of Odisha Dr. Kamala Das. In her long public career, she has continuously worked for the betterment of Odisha and the people of the State. My deepest condolences to his bereaved family and followers,” wrote Murmu on social media platform X (earlier known as Twitter).

BJP National Vice-President Baijayant Panda also expressed his condolence on the sad demise of Das. “I am deeply shocked and saddened with the sad demise of former Minister and Bhograi MLA Dr. Kamala Das. May her noble soul rest in peace. I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family members. Om Shanti,” tweeted Panda.

“I am deeply saddened to know about the sad demise of former MLA and Minister Dr. Kamala Das. Her work in the field of public service will always be remembered. May her immortal soul rest in peace! I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family members,” tweeted CM Patnaik.
