Efforts on to douse forest fire
Massive forest fires have been reported across various regions of Odisha, wreaking havoc on both human settlements and wildlife. The devastating fires have engulfed forests in Sundargarh, Talcher, and Boudh districts, raising serious concerns about environmental damage and safety.
The jungles of Sundargarh’s Bonai sub-division and Banki range are ablaze, with thick smoke rising over the treetops. The intensity of the fire is evident from the visuals emerging from the region.

Experts believe the fire originated from farmland burning and the collection of Mahua flowers, a common seasonal practice. Unfortunately, the flames have now spread uncontrollably into the forests.
Firefighters and forest department personnel, armed with blower machines, are working tirelessly to contain the inferno. However, the proximity of the flames to human habitations has sparked fears of further damage. Villagers living near the affected forests are worried about their homes and livestock.

The Balunga protected forest near Talcher is also burning, with flames steadily advancing through the dry terrain. The fire department has rushed to the site to control the situation, but the delay in response from the Talcher forest division has sparked public outrage.
Local villagers of Balunga expressed their dissatisfaction, questioning how the fire started and why no preventive measures have been taken so far. The exact cause of the fire remains unclear, leaving room for speculation and concern.
A raging fire in the Jamukhol forest of Boudh district has destroyed at least eight houses in Tikarpada panchayat, causing significant financial losses to affected families.
The fire, which started in the forest, spread rapidly due to strong winds, eventually reaching the homes of Ajit Kahnar and Sambhu Kahnar in Jamukhol village.
Villagers watched in horror as the flames leaped from one house to another, consuming everything in its path. Despite the prompt arrival of the fire brigade, much of the damage had already been done. Preliminary reports suggest that someone might have intentionally set fire to the forest; but before anyone could react, the blaze spiralled out of control.
