The health condition of the Fakir Mohan Autonomous College girl student from Balasore, who attempted self-immolation on Saturday, allegedly due to prolonged harassment, continues to remain critical at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.

Medical authorities on Monday confirmed that the victim is now undergoing dialysis, as her kidney function has deteriorated significantly.

According to AIIMS Bhubaneswar officials, the dialysis is being carried out in consultation with experts from AIIMS Delhi via video conferencing.

Hospital sources added that her potassium levels had dropped dangerously low, prompting the administration of essential vitamins and micronutrients.

“We are closely monitoring her blood sugar levels. Her internal organs have suffered massive damage, and we are offering round-the-clock and the best treatment facilities to her,” said an AIIMS doctor.

Notably, a 10-member panel of specialised doctors from anaesthesia, medicine, cardiology, pulmonology, burns and plastic surgery departments was formed yesterday to monitor her condition round-the-clock.

Survival Chances Remain Grim Amid Organ Damage

AIIMS Director Dr. Ashutosh Biswas said the victim has suffered between 90–95% deep burn injuries, which have led to severe damage to her kidneys and respiratory system.

“She is on advanced life support and remains intubated in the ICU. Her condition hasn’t improved since admission, and the next 24 to 48 hours will be decisive,” he said on Sunday.

Doctors have ruled out the possibility of transferring her to another facility, citing the extreme risk. Despite the deployment of a high-level critical care team, her vitals remain unstable. Doctors are working to prevent infection and maintain artificial organ function.

Meanwhile, the Odisha government has initiated a high-level inquiry into the incident. A three-member Committee from the Higher Education Department is probing institutional lapses and administrative accountability.

FM College Principal Dillip Ghosh and HoD Sameer Kumar Sahoo have been suspended. Sahoo was arrested on Saturday and is in police custody amid allegations of sustained mental harassment that allegedly led the student to her drastic step.
