Flood threat looms in Odisha's Balasore with Subarnarekha in spate again

With the upper catchment of the Subarnarekha in Jharkhand and its basin receiving heavy rainfall, a flood threat in the river has emerged for the second time in Balasore this year. 

At a time when the Subarnarekha river is swelling, 2200 cusec floodwater from the Galudihi barrage was released into the river. The Central Water

Mission informed that the floodwater was released at 10 AM.

As per sources, while the barrage’s water retention capacity is 94.5 meters, its water level stood at 101.25 meters and is increasing due to incessant rainfall. 

At the same time, the river’s warning level and danger level at Rajghat in Balasore are 9.45 meters and 10.36 meters respectively. It is learnt that the floodwater released into the river will take around 12 hours to reach Rajghat.
