Electric buses with 30-second charging time likely to ply between Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri
In a significant move towards sustainable and high-tech public transportation, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has proposed the deployment of flash-charging electric buses in Odisha. The initiative aims to establish a direct electric bus service connecting Twin City of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack to the pilgrimage city of Puri.
These state-of-the-art buses are equipped with flash-charging technology, enabling them to achieve a full charge in under 30 seconds through a 600 kW overhead charger installed at bus stops. The system is designed to initiate charging automatically upon arrival, ensuring minimal downtime.
Flight-like Experience On Road
The pilot project for these buses is set to commence in Nagpur, Maharashtra. Each bus measures 18 meters in length and comprises high-end features such as executive-class seating, individual TV screens, air conditioning, laptop trays, mobile charging points, and onboard refreshments, offering passengers an experience akin to air travel.
Cost-Effective Journey
Moreover, these electric buses are expected to be 30% more cost-effective for passengers compared to conventional diesel buses, while also contributing significantly to environmental conservation. If the Nagpur model proves successful, similar services could soon be introduced in Odisha, providing eco-friendly, comfortable, and affordable travel for commuters on the Twin City–Puri corridor.
