Five snakebite deaths in 10 days in Odisha as another student dies in Keonjhar

A girl student died at Patana village in Keonjhar after a poisonous snake bit her while she was asleep in a private hostel where she was staying. The deceased has been identified as Swopna Lohar from Badapasi village in the district.

She was studying +2 Science at Patana College and was staying in Laxmipriya mess at Patana Bazar.

As per reports, Lohar was asleep on the floor when was bitten by the venomous snake.

Though she was immediately rushed to the District Head Quarters Hospital (DHH) in Keonjhar, she succumbed while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

This is the fifth death due to snakebite in the last ten days reported from different parts of Odisha.

In another incident, Dhirendra Rout and his family had a close shave after a cobra was recovered from under their bed at Kamalapur village under Cuttack’s Banki on Friday night.

The snake had reportedly crawled under their bed while they were sleeping. Dhirendra discovered the snake in the morning after leaving the bed. The cobra was subsequently rescued by the snake helpline members.
