A fire incident occurred in a wagon of a coal-laden goods train at Balugaon railway station in Khordha district on Friday night.

The train was reportedly parked on platform number 2 at the station when some people spotted smoke emanating from a wagon.

Firefighters of Banapur fire station were immediately called in who rushed to spot and doused the flame. The reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.

The fire in the goods train came close on the heels of another fire in an express train reported at Khariar Road railway station on Thursday evening.

The fire was reported under a coach of the Durg-Puri Express after it reached Khariar Road Station.

As per the preliminary report by the East Coast Railway (ECoR), the brake pads of the train caught fire due to friction on account of the incomplete release of brakes. There was no fire inside the coach and apart from the brake pads, no other damages were reported, informed ECoR.

The ECoR confirmed that the problem was rectified and the train departed from Khariar Road station at 2300 hrs.
