The Director General (DG) of Fire Services, Sudhanshu Sarangi on Wednesday submitted a report before the Orissa High Court pertaining to the fire-fighting measures at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack during a hearing on the matter.

Apart from Sarangi, SCB Medical College and Hospital Superintendent Sudhansu Sekhar Mishra and Executive Engineer PK Majhi were also present in the High Court during the hearing.

It has been mentioned in the report that the fire alarm and extinguisher work at SCB will be finished within three months. Similarly, the additional fire safety work will be finished within six months.

As per the report, following the approval of the administration for fire safety measures in as many as 64 of the total 87 buildings of the SCB, the tender process has already started. It has been mentioned in the report that the government approval for the fire safety measures at the other 14 buildings is awaited.

The next hearing on the matter will be held after eight weeks. Fire Service DG will submit an affidavit in the matter then.

Earlier last week, hearing a PIL on inadequate fire safety measures at the premier medical institution in the State, Orissa High Court had expressed concerns about the absence of fire-fighting systems.
