FCI trucks penalised in Ganjam; RTO collects over Rs 1 lakh in fines

The Ganjam district transport department carried out a surprise enforcement drive at the Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown premises in Narendrapur, Chhatrapur block, on Sunday to uncover multiple violations in freight trucks transporting essential commodities.

The operation was launched following complaints of unfit vehicles and missing documentation among trucks engaged in daily goods transport from the godown.

According to reports, hundreds of trucks operate from this FCI facility every day, supplying food materials across various locations. However, recent complaints prompted Ganjam RTO Manas Ranjan Sahu and his enforcement team to conduct a sudden inspection.

During the raid, numerous trucks were found either operating without valid fitness certificates or evading mandatory transport taxes, added sources.

Fines Imposed, Vehicles Under Watch

As per RTO officials, five vehicles were penalised during the inspection, resulting in a total fine collection of Rs 1,19,160. Some trucks were reportedly operating without essential paperwork, including permits, pollution certificates, or tax receipts.

Officials have also stated that more such raids are expected in the coming days to curb non-compliant freight operations.

The transport department has warned vehicle operators and contractors to ensure documentation is up-to-date to avoid penalties or possible vehicle detention.

During the operation, transport officials also reportedly informed FCI representatives present at the godown about the need to bar unfit or illegal trucks from accessing the premises.

Interestingly, sources reported that during the raid, several truck operators fled the spot upon learning about the inspection, evading potential checks. However, Ganjam RTO has not issued any statements in this regard.
