Farmers stage protest in Kalahandi
Hundreds of farmers staged a protest in Kalahandi district on Sunday demanding irrigation facilities for their farmlands from the Indravati canal.
As per reports, the farmers staged a road blockade as part of their protest on the Dharmagarh-Tambachhada road near Telipalas village.
The farmers have warned the district administration that they will continue the protest till their demands are fulfilled.
As per the allegation by the farmers, their paddy cultivation has suffered severe damage due to the shortage of water in villages like Telipalas, Tambachhada and Matia. Even the farmlands have developed cracks due to the sanctity of rain and the absence of irrigation facilities from the canal.
“As Telipalas distributary canal is not functioning and there is a paucity of rain, our paddy cultivation is wilting. We are demanding immediate supply of water to our farmlands from the Indravati canal. We will continue our protest till our demands are met,” said a protesting farmer.
