A farmer at Gunduribadi village in Ganjam district lost his life after he was trampled by an elephant on Thursday night. The deceased has been identified as Tuna Gauda. As per reports, Gauda had gone to guard his paddy field when he was attacked by the tusker.
The incident occurred at Mujagad range under the north Ghumsur forest area. Sources said a herd of 17 elephants has been unleashing terror in the area for the past couple of days. The herd has strayed near the village yesterday. It was then the farmer became the target of the tusker.
Palpable tension prevailed in the village following the death of the farmer in the elephant attack. Senior officials of the forest department have reached the village and started an investigation into the incident.
