A farmer couple reportedly died after being hit by an unidentified vehicle near Patrapali square under Muribahal police station in Bolangir district on Wednesday. 

The deceased have been identified as Gambhir Rana and his wife Gita Rana. Both Gambhir and Gita were on their way to their farmland when they met the tragic accident. The accident was so severe that a cow was also killed on the spot.

A pal of gloom descended in the area following the tragic accident. In protest, irate locals staged a road blockade along Raipur-Gopalpur NH-59 demanding the seizure of the vehicle and compensation to the family members of the deceased.

Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on both the sides of the road due to the protest. Till the last report came in, Muribahal police and the local Tehsildar had reached the spot to pacify the protesting people.

In another such accident, a driver was trapped between two vehicles after a truck hit another truck near Charbati square under Rairakhol police station in Sambalpur district on Wednesday.

As per reports, a truck hit another truck stranded on National Highway No. 55. As a result, the driver of a truck got stuck between both the vehicles.

Upon being informed, Fire Service personnel and police reached the spot immediately. After three hours of efforts, the driver was reportedly rescued by fire services personnel.
