A family has been allegedly ostracised by the villagers at Dhaipur area under Athagarh block in Cuttack district for opposing the digging of a patch of land located in front of their house.

The victim has been identified as Sudam Charan Sahu and his family members.

Sudam has filed a police complaint at Athagarh police station in this connection. However, no action has been taken so far.

As per the complaint, some of the villagers were digging the land in front of Sudam’s house. However, when he opposed the move, the villagers called a meeting and decided to socially ostracise Sudam’s family from the village.

The villagers even beat drums at the village to announce the social ostracisation of the family. However, netizens reacted strongly against the move after the video of the entire incident went viral over various social media platforms.

“Some of the villagers called a meeting and decided to ostracsie my family from the village following my protest against the digging of the land in front of my house. They even drove me out of the meeting which was pretty humiliating. I have complained about the incident at the police station. However, no action has been taken yet,” said Sudam.

Meanwhile, Sub-Collector Hemant Kumar Swain said that the matter will be solved soon.

“The district administration is aware of the incident. The matter will be solved within a day or two,” said Swain.
