Fake Rs 100 and 200 currency notes circulating in Bhubaneswar, shopkeepers in panic

Panic gripped the vendors and residents of Bhubaneswar after fake currency notes of Rs 100 and Rs 200 were found to be circulating in the Capital City. The matter came to the fore after a grocery store owner became the victim of the fake currency notes.

The fake currency notes are so accurate that no one can identify if it is original or duplicates in the first sight. The number, signature of the Governor, print, and everything is so precise, except for the difference in the RBI logo.

There is no shining in the RBI logo in the duplicate currency notes. The circulation of fake notes poses a serious challenge even after the 2016 demonetisation, whose one of the key objectives was to eradicate the counterfeiting of notes.

"Because of the Kartik month, there was a huge rush in my shop yesterday. Taking advantage of the rush, someone handed me over the fake note. I realised it was fake after checking the notes properly today. This is not the first time I have been the victim of fake currency notes. I have got fake notes on several occasions and thrown them away," alleged a shopkeeper.

"Not just me, one of my friends also received such fake notes. Not just Rs 100 and Rs 200 currency notes, there are also fake notes of Rs 10 and Rs 20 denominations in the market. Police should keep a strict vigil on such atrocious acts," he added.

Similarly, another vendor said, "Most of us are busy attending customers and forget to check the notes properly. This is seriously affecting people, especially those who are working part-time in the evening to earn a few bucks. The government should take strict action against such frauds."
