Bolangir police seized fake currency notes worth lakhs of rupees at Patnagargh on Thursday.

As many as two accused were arrested in this connection. They have been identified as Baruna Panuan from Bhaisa village under Patnagarh police station and Rohit Bastia from Budhabahal village under Deogaon police station.

As per police sources, the accused were involved in the fake currency notes racket for a long time. Police have seized as many as 274 counterfeit currency notes in the denomination of Rs 500 with a total worth of Rs 1,37,000.

As per reports, the accused presented some fake currency notes to a singer who was taking part in the ‘Sankirtana’ programme in the area on Wednesday. However, the singer identified the fake currency notes and informed the committee members in this regard. 

Subsequently, some villagers informed about the development to Patnagarh police station.
 
Acting on the information, Bolangir police raided the houses of the accused and nabbed them. 

Fake currency notes worth Rs 1,37,000 was seized during the raid. A computer, printer and some other instruments used for printing were also seized from their possession.

“More investigation into the organized racket is currently underway. More information regarding the racket could be divulged after the investigation and questioning of the arrested accused,” said Patnagarh SDPO Sadanand Pujari.
