Veteran politician and former Jagatsinghpur MP Trilochan Kanungo passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on Friday. He was 83. 

The politician, who was elected to the Lok Sabha as a member of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), passed away today at 7 am.

According to sources, the three-time MLA and one-time MP was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar since March 30. After battling for life for over three weeks, Kanungo breathed his last today morning.

As the news of his demise spread, condolences poured in from all quarters.

BJP National Vice President Baijayant Panda condoled the demise of the veteran politician and tweeted, “Former MP Trilochan Kanungo was a man of great integrity, wisdom, and affection. He was a Parliamentarian with an impeccable record.”

“He was an MP when I first entered Parliament in 2000. He was a father-like figure who was very generous with suggestions and advice, from which I benefited immensely. His passing is a big loss to me personally.  But I shall cherish the learnings from his life. My prayers are with his bereaved family. Om Shanti,” he added.

Similarly, CM Naveen Patnaik wrote, “I am saddened to learn of the demise of senior politician and former MP Trilochan Kanungo. His work in public service will always be remembered. May his soul rest in peace and my condolences to the bereaved family members.”
