Eviction from government quarters triggers tension in Bhubaneswar

Tension rose in Bhubaneswar's Unit-2 as authorities evicted illegal occupants from government quarters. The operation, led by the BDA and GA Department, followed an OTV report. 18 out of 100 quarters were vacated. Eviction drive will be intensified in the days ahead.

Altercation during eviction drive in Bhubaneswar

Tension erupted in Bhubaneswar during the eviction of illegal occupants from government quarters. A face-off ensued between the encroachers and the enforcement team during the second day of the ongoing drive in Unit-2 locality, on Wednesday.

According to official sources, tension erupted as the eviction drive progressed for a second consecutive day in the Unit-2 (Ashok Nagar) area. A coordinated effort spearheaded the massive operation, seeking to reclaim unlawfully occupied residences.

Amidst these actions, several individuals who had forcibly encroached upon the properties expressed their dissatisfaction. Authorities reported that out of more than 100 illegally inhabited government quarters, 18 have been successfully vacated.

Eviction drive to be intensified

“The drive will continue in the days ahead to vacate all other illegally occupied government quarters. Legal action will also be taken against the wrongdoers,” Rent Officer and a senior member of the team, Prakash Chandra Behera, expressed.

Worth mentioning, local administration cracked down on illegal occupants of government quarters on Tuesday, following a news broadcast on Odisha Television Network (OTV).

A recent report by the OTV brought to light that some of these properties were being improperly used, with some occupants keeping cattle in them as cowsheds and others turning them into warehouses.

Influential local people are suspected of seizing control of these accommodations. Following the report, joint eviction operations led by the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and the General Administration (GA) Department had commenced yesterday.
