Elephants create ruckus
A tusker wreaked havoc in Motu Hanuman village under Koida forest range in Odisha late last night, breaking into a house and killing a woman. The incident occurred when the wild elephant entered the village and began damaging property and consuming stored paddy.
The tusker broke into the house of Phulamani Gudia to feed on paddy. Family members, terrified by the sudden intrusion, ran in panic. In the chaos, Phulamani fell in front of the elephant. The animal trampled her with its legs, killing her on the spot.
Police and forest department officials reached the site and recovered the body. Investigation into the incident is currently underway. Meanwhile, villagers remain in a state of fear due to the presence of the elephant.
In a similar incident, a herd of 26 elephants created destruction in the Karanjia forest range. The elephants crossed the Deo river from the Patana range late last night and entered the Karanjia forest division. They caused extensive damage in Tendra, Barabeda, and Telipoda villages under Patana range. Initial reports suggest that four to five houses have been broken.
The herd is currently camping in the forest near Badadeuli village under the Karanjia division. Following the news of their arrival, residents of around 80 surrounding villages are living in panic.
The forest department has stated that they are keeping a close watch on the movement of the elephants.
