Elderly woman seeks SP’s help, alleges domestic abuse by son and daughter-in-law in Berhampur

PUBLISHED: LAST UPDATE:

Sudeshna Bishoyi, an elderly woman from Nalihada village, accused her son and daughter-in-law of domestic abuse and farmland destruction, seeking SP Shravana Vivek's intervention after local police inaction.

Elderly woman accuses son, daughter-in-law of domestic abuse

An elderly resident of Nalihada village, under the jurisdiction of Berhampur Sadar police station, met the Superintendent of Police on Friday, seeking action against her son and daughter-in-law. She alleged that despite filing a complaint of domestic abuse at the local police station, no steps were taken to address her grievances.

Sudeshna Bishoyi, a resident of the village, approached Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek demanding justice against her younger son, Laxmikant Sangram Singh, and his wife. She claimed that although she had lodged a formal complaint at Sadar police station, no action was taken, compelling her to escalate the matter to the SP.

According to Sudeshna, the incident took place on 5 August, when her son allegedly sprayed poisonous pesticide on the farmland, destroying the crop. Upon confronting him, she alleged that she was assaulted by both her son and daughter-in-law.

Claim of Physical Assault Over Farmland Dispute

“They went to the farmland and asked me to leave, saying it belongs to them. They also said they will give me no share of it. Saying this, my daughter-in-law pushed me to the ground and asked me to go away. This incident happened on August 5. I want justice. Is this right for them to torture me at this age,” questioned Sudeshna.

No Action Taken by Local Police

Sudeshna’s appeal to the SP reflects her frustration over the lack of response from the local police. She has demanded immediate action and protection, expressing fear of further harassment and isolation.

No official response from either Laxmikant Sangram Singh or Berhampur Sadar police station could be obtained regarding the allegations.

The case has sparked concern in the local community, raising questions about the treatment of elderly citizens and the effectiveness of law enforcement in handling intra-family disputes.
