An elderly man from Jagatsinghpur area attempted suicide in front of the Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar by consuming phenyl on Wednesday.

Fortunately, police personnel on security duty rushed to his rescue. He was rescued in a critical condition and immediately rushed to the Capital Hospital.  However, his condition remains critical (till the last report came in).

The elderly man has been identified as Rabindra Das of Jagatsinghpur area. Preliminary reports suggest Rabindra took the extreme step due to alleged apathy of police, and indifference and humiliation by Tomando police.

According to sources, Rabindra resides in Kalinga Vihar and used to run a parlour in the area. He had taken a room on rent and spent a whopping Rs 5 lakh to run the saloon. He had also engaged an assistant to look after his shop as he has no one of his own. However, with time, the assistant illegally took over the saloon using forged documents.

The accused is allegedly being helped by the house owner where the elderly man was running the parlour on a rent basis.

Since then, Rabindra has been running from pillar to post to get justice but to no avail. He had reportedly approached the Tomando police and tried to lodge a complaint in this regard. However, the cops allegedly refused to take his complaint.

He even tried to bring his plight to the notice of the DG, the DCP and the local IIC, but no one allegedly paid heed to his woes.

Feeling completely dejected and being left with no other option, the elderly man decided to end his life in front of the Lok Seva Bhawan, reports said.
