An elderly man has reportedly gone missing in Brahmani River at Pattamundai in Kendrapara district after he was allegedly attacked and dragged into the river by a crocodile on Thursday evening.

The incident has been reported from Kulasahi village under Panthapala panchayat.

The elderly man, identified as Amulya Das, had gone to the river to attend nature’s call. In the meantime, he was attacked and dragged into the river by a crocodile, locals said, adding that the elderly man’s slippers were recovered from the riverbed.

On being informed about the incident, Fire Services personnel and Forest department officials rushed to the village and launched a frantic search.

It is worthwhile to mention here that Kendrapara has reported three deaths due to crocodile attacks in the last two months.

On June 29, one elderly man, identified as Gangadhara Tarai of Ghagaradiha village, died in a crocodile attack. 

One Ashutosh Acharya, a Class 5 student of Nimpur village under Pattamundai block in Kendrapara district, was allegedly dragged and killed by a crocodile on June 14.

Similarly, on June 21, a woman, identified as Sita Das from Hatiagadi village under Rajnagar block in the district fell victim to a similar attack in the district.
