In a daring daylight theft, two miscreants looted an elderly man of Rs 1 Lakh along with several important documents outside Pattamundai police station in Kendrapara district on Tuesday.

The incident took place as Kamalakanta, a resident of Panturi village under Pattamundai block, fell victim to the loot while taking cash to his home following bank withdrawal. Having stopped near the police station, Kamalakanta left the money, along with a chequebook and important documents, in the vehicle’s dicky before heading to a nearby shop.

“Yesterday, I received the paddy procurement money through my bank account in DBT mode. I withdrew the money (Rs 1 Lakh) and was returning home when the theft occurred. I had gone to a nearby tailoring shop and saw the miscreants breaking open my motorcycle dicky. Immediately, I shouted for help but they decamped with the cash and other items,” Kamalakanta said to OTV.
