As many as nine persons drowned to death in separate incidents across Odisha during Holi celebrations on Tuesday.

During Holi celebrations, a student from the Chandrasekharpur area in Bhubaneswar along with his friend was taking a bath in the Puri main canal near Panchpal village in the Barang area of Cuttack. The two drowned, but one was rescued.  Later, the dead body of the missing student was retrieved. 

In another incident, a youth drowned in the Chaunrpur power channel in Sambalpur. He was bathing when he was swept away in the channel. 
   

Moreover, a minor boy drowned in a pond at Dahisada village under Soro police limits of Balasore while taking a bath after celebrating Holi. In another incident in Balasore district, another minor boy reportedly died after drowning in the pond. 

Similarly, a youth drowned at Karamuan under Salipur Police limits of Cuttack while another youth drowned in Luna River in the Nischintakoili area of the same district. 

A minor boy reportedly died after drowning at Katakula under Paradip Lock Police limits while another person drowned at Chamakhandi Basanaputi village in Ganjam. A minor boy also drowned at Seshapadar village in Kalahandi while another minor reportedly drowned in a stream in Koida area of Sundargarh district.
