Duplicate ghee-making unit busted in Berhampur, one arrested

The owner of the ghee-making unit, identified as Ipari Rajeswar Patra, was earlier arrested in 2020 for illegal guthka trading.

Police busted a manufacturing unit engaged in making of duplicate ghee of a branded company in Berhampur on Thursday. Police also seized huge quantities of duplicate ghee, apart from materials, tools, and articles used for the manufacturing of the same.

The owner of the unit, identified as Ipari Rajeswar Patra, was arrested. Earlier in 2020, Patra had been arrested for illegal guthka trading. He came out on bail six months later and started duplicate ghee manufacturing, informed sources.

As per reports, duplicate ghee manufacturing has been going on for the last two years. The duplicate ghee packed in the packaging of a reputed brand 'Maa Durga Ghee' was being supplied to various parts of the state.

Apart from the ghee, he was also making rice bran oil and other edible oil without a license.  
Acting on a tip-off, police raided Badabazar area and seized huge quantities of ghee-making items, packaging materials, used oil, sub-standard palm oil, and cartons of oil. Patra was manufacturing this ghee without a trade license. 

Police also found that the duplicate packets of ghee had no dates of manufacturing and expiry.
