Going to prevent drunken driving and alcohol-impaired driving fatalities, the Odisha Transport department has launched a drive against tipsy drivers from today.

A three-day-long drive has been launched across the state in which there will be strict checking from 3 PM to 12 midnight every day starting Thursday.

Informing about the drive, additional commissioner of Transport Department, Lalmohan Sethi said, “Enforcement is a major function that gives us instant results. We have launched a three-day-long drive namely ‘drunken –driving’ from today itself.”

In order to make the drive more powerful, the Transport department has issued directions to administrative officers to court-forward the tipsy drivers who will be caught during the checking hours.

“Directions have already been issued to the RTOs to hand over the drunken drivers to police after producing them in a court. We will make it sure that the caught drivers must be forwarded. The drive would be of little impact without court-forward,” observed Sethi.

Acting on the direction of the Central government, the transport department has decided to observe the first week of April month as ‘Zero Casualty’ week.
