Dreaded criminal Hyder's son, gang thrash UTP for complaining 'illegal activities' at Jharpada jail
A day after various contraband items and mobile phones were seized from inside the Jharapada Jail in Bhubaneswar, dread criminal Hyder's son Muna and his associates allegedly thrashed an Under Trial Prisoner (UTP) for divulging various illegal activities of the jail inmates in the public.
The victim has been identified as Soumyakant Mohanty.
According to sources, Mohanty had recently written a letter to the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) alleging various irregular activities including the use of mobile phones by jail inmates.
Acting on his complaint, DLSA officials searched Jharpada jail premises yesterday. Following the raid, the DLSA team laid its hand on various narcotic items and mobile phones. Later, the team handed over all the items to Laxmi Sagar police.
Fumed over Mohanty's action, Muna and his associates thrashed him in which he sustained injuries on his head. He was immediately rushed to the Capital Hospital, sources informed.
"Hyder's son Muna and his gang attacked me today for sharing information with DLSA about various illegal activities inside the jail. They are using mobile phones," Mohanty said to OTV.
In his letter, which has an exclusive access to OTV, Mohanty alleged that ganja bidi was being sold at Rs 200 per piece and Rs 50,000 (one time) was charged to provide better accommodation. For accessing mobile phones Rs 5000 and extra tariff is charged.
However, no comments could be obtained from the jail authorities over the development.
