In a dramatic late-night development, two notorious criminals were injured in a police encounter in the Indranipatna area of Choudwar in Cuttack. The joint operation was carried out by the Choudwar Police and the Special Squad, targeting individuals with extensive criminal backgrounds.
The accused have been identified as Subhrajit Parida alias Jubula and Sangram Rout alias Katas, both of whom have long criminal histories. Further, police sources added that Katas has at least 15 criminal cases registered against him, while Shubhranshu is allegedly involved in over 50 cases, ranging from extortion to armed robbery.
The police had been tracking their movements for some time and launched an operation late last night to apprehend them.
How the Encounter Unfolded
The police raid turned violent when the suspects reportedly opened fire at the officers during the attempted arrest. In retaliation, the police returned fire, during which both Katas and Shubhranshu sustained bullet injuries to their legs.
The injured suspects were immediately shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital for treatment. As per the last reports, their condition is stated to be stable.
Following the encounter, police recovered firearms and live ammunition from the possession of the accused. The duo reportedly had a record of violent behaviour and posed a direct threat during the operation.

Police Response
Cuttack DCP Rishikesh Khilari stated that a few days back, a robbery had taken place in the Cantonment Road area of Cuttack City and another in Choudwar. The duo were linked to the case, following which police began a manhunt for them.
"We received reliable inputs, and our team followed the two robbers trying to flee after diverting from the NH-55. During the pursuit, they opened fire on our officers. In retaliation, we conducted a control fire and nabbed the duo. They were taken to SCB MCH for treatment of their injuries," he added.
