According to Mohanty, a foul smell was emanating from the house yesterday, and knocked the door under suspicion.

"As the doctor did not open the door, we tried to reach him over the phone. But failed to connect. Later, we informed the police. We suspect that he might have died due to cardiac arrest," he added.

Though the exact reason behind the doctor's death is unclear, police have started an investigation into the incident.
