The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has begun a geotechnical investigation for the proposed Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project on the stretch between Nandankanan in Bhubaneswar and Trishulia in Cuttack.

Presently, the soil test is being carried out at four places on the stretch to ascertain the soil 's bearing capacity of the area where pillars of metro rail would be erected.

As per reports, the DMRC will be conducting such tests every one kilometre on the 26-kilometre stretch between Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) and Trishulia Square, following which it will submit a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the government.

Arjun Singh, a worker with the DMRC said, “We are testing the soil here. We take soil samples every 1.5 metres and send them to the laboratory for testing. The test report will indicate the type of construction the pillars would need in order to bear the load of the rail line above.”

Odisha Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik had approved the proposal for the metro train service on the occasion of Utkal Dibasa (April 1) 2023.

In the first phase, it will cover areas of airport, railway station, Vani Vihar, Jaydev Vihar, Patia, Nandankanan, and Trishulia.

As per reports, the proposed metro train service will be extended to Puri and will connect the pilgrim town with Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
