'Disrespect' to Lord Jagannath on Jatra stage; complaint against actor

A complaint has been lodged at Badambadi Police Station, Cuttack, by Abhisesh Das Nayak against opera artiste Kanha Swain for allegedly disrespecting Lord Jagannath during a play by the Singhabahini Jatra troupe.

'Disrespect' to Lord Jagannath

A complaint against an opera artiste has been lodged at Badambadi Police Station, Cuttack on charges of disrespect to Lord Jagannath in a particular play staged by the Singhabahini Jatra troupe. 

A person identified as Abhisesh Das Nayak has lodged a complaint against actor Kanha Swain. He has demanded the particular scene be removed from the play. 

After the video of the act went viral on social media, netizens without mincing their words opposed the act and censured the actor. 

The purported viral video shows Kanha tying a piece of cloth to Lord Jagannath’s idol and leaving the stage with the idol hanging from his shoulder.

Criticism poured in from different quarters with a growing demand for action. 

Meanwhile, police said if the allegation is proven action would be inevitable.  

“On the basis of the complaint registered at Badambadi Police Station, an investigation has been initiated. During the investigation, if proof is received, legal action will be taken,” said Additional DCP Anil Mishra.
