Diarrhoea outbreak continues to grip Malkangiri
Diarrhoea outbreak continues to grip Malkangiri district as a person died at Luler village under Mathili block on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Subarna Nayak.
As per reports, Nayak was immediately admitted to Mathili hospital after diarrhoea was detected. However, he succumbed to the disease in the evening.
As many as seven persons from Luler village are currently undergoing treatment at Mathili Hospital.
“I have been suffering from diarrhoea since last evening. I am getting treatment here,” said a patient.
A team of doctors reportedly reached the village and started treatment of the patients. The Anganwadi centre at the village has been converted into a temporary treatment centre.
“The exact cause behind the disease is yet to be ascertained. We have sent samples of water for testing. Reasons behind the disease could only be ascertained after receiving the report,” said a doctor.
“A special team of doctors from Malkangiri has visited the diarrhoea-stricken villages. They will submit a report after taking stock of the situation. We are verifying the media reports on diarrhoea deaths. The health director and district hospital headquarters have been directed to take appropriate measures to tackle the situation,” said Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling.
