A youth from Dhenkanal district who had gone to Sikkim has gone missing. The distressed family members have sought the help of district administration to trace him out.

According to the family members, Chandrasekhar Singh, a 26-year-old resident of Siminai village under Sadar police limits in Dhenkanal district, and his seven friends had left for Sikkim on October 1 to visit the tourist spots there.

The family members said they have not been able to reach out to him on his mobile phone since October 3. Nor are they able to contact others. All of them being incommunicado, the family members are under severe mental distress.

Recently, they met Saroj Kumar Sethi, the district Collector, and urged him to take steps to trace out their son and others. He has assured them of all possible help to find out the missing youths.

“He made a last call to us at 9 pm on Tuesday. Since then we have not been able to contact him on his mobile phone. Later we came to know about the incident that occurred there (flash flood),” said Satyabhama Singh, mother of Chandrasekhar.

When contacted, district Collector Sethi said, “As of now, all ways of communication are snapped due to rains, flood and landslide. We will try our level best to trace them out.

Notably, the devastating flash flood hit the hilly state on Tuesday following the sudden cloudburst and bursting of a high-altitude glacial lake.

Odia Saroj Kumar Das, a resident of Kendudhipa under the Kamakhyanagar block of Dhenkanal district, was martyred in the incident. He was part of a group of 23 Army personnel that had been reported missing in the disaster.
