Demand for flyover bridge grows louder as Balasore residents block NH

Vehicular movement on the National Highway 16 was disrupted as the members of Bamapada Surakhya Mancha blocked the NH near Bamapada Chari Chhaka area in Balasore district demanding the construction of a flyover in the area.

According to sources, the local residents have long been demanding a flyover near Chari Chhaka.

Even after reportedly approaching the district administration several times, their cry for the repair work of dilapidated roads and a flyover yielded no results. Finding no other options, the irate locals blocked the highway, sources added.

However, they later withdrew their protest after the Balasore sub-collector and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials reached the spot and reportedly gave assurance that their demands will be fulfilled at the earliest.

“The failure of the NHAI and the private construction company has slowed down the construction of the flyover. More than 100 people have died due to road accidents here. After we blocked the National Highway, the sub-collector came to meet us. If our demands are not met within a month, then we will intensify our protest,” a member of the Bamapada Surakhya Mancha said.

“There is a lack of coordination between the Railways and the NHAI for which the construction of the flyover is getting delayed,” another protestor said.
