In a midnight operation, a team from Delhi Police raided an apartment at Laxmi Sagar in Bhubaneswar and picked up an IT professional.

The accused has been identified as Prabhat Patra who was residing in a flat in Laxmi Sagar area.

As per reports, Prabhat is an IT professional and was operating an office in Bhubaneswar. It was alleged that Prabhat had hacked a government website.

The raids and subsequent detainment of Prabhat were conducted with the help of Laxmi Sagar police.

The police recovered a computer and mobile phone from Patra which are being verified for confirmation of cybercrime.

The police have made no comments in this connection so far.

It is pertinent to mention here that the increasing cases of cybercrime in Odisha have emerged as a big challenge for the Odisha police.

According to the information shared by the Odisha police, 1475 cybercrime cases were registered in 2019-20. The year 2020-21 witnessed a slight increase, as a total of 1,931 cases were registered.

However, the number of cases crossed 2,000-mark in 2022-23. A total of 2,036 cases were registered in the year. However, it has been alleged that the actual cases of cybercrime are much more than what the police department is sharing.
