A decomposed carcass of a wild tusker has been recovered on the foothills of Baliam hill under the Jamankira forest range of the Sambalpur district. It is suspected that the elephant was about 7 to 8 years old and might have died in a fight.

The RCCF and the DFO reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident. Senior officials of the Forest Department informed that the exact reason behind the tusker’s death can be ascertained after the post-mortem.

Moreover, a team of the Joint Task Force (JTF) from Bhubaneswar would be reaching the spot for necessary investigation as well, the forest department officials said on Wednesday.
