Tension gripped Anandanpur sub-divisional hospital in Keonjhar district after local tribal people staged a sit-in over a dead body being left to rot in the hospital.

According to a source, a tribal youth was driving a tractor on the Baitarani river bed at Padampur under Anandapur sub-division on Wednesday evening. Suddenly the tractor overturned, trapping the youth under it. Later, he was rushed to the Anandapur sub-divisional hospital. While undergoing treatment, he succumbed. Even after 20 hours, no step was reportedly taken for the inquest and post-mortem of the body.

Infuriated family members of the deceased and locals staged a sit-in on the hospital premises, registering their protest against the police and hospital authorities.

The callousness of the police and the hospital authorities enraged the local people as well.

“The youth was driving a tractor. Due to some reasons, the tractor overturned, trapping the driver under it. After being rescued, he was rushed to the hospital where he breathed his last while undergoing treatment. The body has been lying for over 20 hours. Neither the police nor the hospital authorities are doing anything in this regard,” rued Bhagaban Sahu, a local.
