A woman died of dengue while undergoing postnatal treatment at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, informed hospital authority on Monday.

The deceased woman was a resident of Rajkanika area in Kendrapara district.

According to sources, the woman was admitted to the Capital Hospital last week for delivery. She underwent all tests before the delivery and her dengue report was negative.

Three days after the delivery, the woman complaint of fever. Upon testing, she was found dengue positive. She was immediately shifted to the ICU but she died while undergoing treatment on Sunday, sources informed.

“A pregnant was admitted to the hospital. She underwent surgery for the delivery. Before delivery, her samples were collected and she was tested dengue negative. But, she tested positive for dengue around July 27,” Capital Hospital director Laxmidhar Sahoo said.

“All necessary treatments were provided to the woman. But she developed dengue shock syndrome. Despite all our efforts, she died during treatment,” Sahoo informed.

Notably, the Capital City is witnessing a surge in dengue cases with several areas like Nayapalli, Unit-VI Tarini slum, Niladri Vihar and Chandrasekharpur BDA colony turning into dengue hubs.
