As Odisha is bracing up for a severe cyclonic storm Dana, people are busy buying essential commodities to keep them cyclone-ready. Amid reports of panic buying, black marketing and hoarding ahead of the cyclone, the short supply of LPG cylinders in Rajnagar area in Kendrapara has irked customer during the testing time.

According to allegations of the locals, there is a man-made short supply of LPG cylinders in the region triggering a competition-like situation among the customers to procure a cylinder.

“There is a short supply of LPG cylinders. Despite, booking LPG cylinders, we are not getting it. Rather, those who are paying more are getting the cylinders. There is a black marketing of LPG cylinders during such a critical point of time,” alleged a local.

Alleging an artificial shortage, another customer said, “I had queued up since long to get a cylinder but in vain. Despite waiting for long hours, I did not get one. This is an artificial shortage and this needs to be investigated.” 

Notably, the severe cyclonic storm Dana is likely to make landfall somewhere between Bhitarkanika in Kendrapara and Dhamra in Bhadrak with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting 120 kmph.

The maximum impact of cyclone Dana is likely to be on October 24 and early morning of October 25.
