Odia almanac made accurate cyclone predictions even before IMD

Though India Meteorological Department (IMD) recently predicted the probable cyclone Dana that is likely to hit Odisha coast on October 24, there was mention of the natural calamity in an Odia almanac earlier.

As per sources, astrologers have earlier predicted this possible cyclone in the month of October and it has already been mentioned in Odia almanac-Asali Khadiranta Panjika. The almanac has also published about the areas that are going to be affected by the possible cyclone.

As per the prediction by the almanac, several lives and properties will be affected due to gutsy wind, severe cyclonic storm, low pressure, high tide and flood between October 17-23 and October 26-30, 2024.

The page of the Odia almanac showing the accurate prediction has reportedly gone viral over various social media platforms.

“Earlier, there were no weather predictions like these days. Odia astrologers used to predict the weather on monthly and yearly basis and those are mentioned in the almanacs. Village ‘abadhanas’ (astrologers) used to read the almanac on ‘Dola Bedis’ during Dola festivals for the people,” said eminent astrologer, Harishankar Mishra.

“Asali Khadiranta Panjika is a very popular almanac in Odisha. The almanac often gives accurate predictions,” said Mishra.
