Cyclone Dana Causes Extensive Damage In Odisha
Over 41 lakh people in Odisha were affected by the severe cyclonic storm Dana and subsequent floods in some districts. As per the preliminary assessment, damages caused by cyclone Dana are around Rs 600 crores, informed Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Monday.
While talking to reporters in Bhubaneswar, Pujari informed that the District Collectors and all departments were directed to submit a damage assessment report by November 2 and the report has been received from 14 districts which were affected by the severe cyclonic storm Dana.
“There has been extensive damage and as per preliminary assessment, the total damage caused by cyclone Dana is around Rs 600 crore. The total loss can be assessed after the compilation of district and department-wise damage reports. The final figure is likely to be prepared by this evening,” informed Pujari.

The Revenue Minister further informed that three districts in Odisha- Balasore, Bhadrak and Kendrapara - have been the worst affected by the cyclone Dana. Similarly, other districts Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, and Cuttack have also been affected.
“Of the total 14 affected districts, 166 blocks were affected during the cyclone Dana. Of the total 166 blocks, 131 blocks were affected more or partially. As many as 11, 637 villages were affected during Cyclone Dana and the floods. The total population that was directly or indirectly affected is over 41 lakh,” said Pujari.

According to the minister, the Energy Department has sustained maximum damage. After completion of the final compilation, the report will be sent to the Centre.
“We have central funds with us. Before the release of funds from the Centre, the state government will start the process of disbursal of compensation for crop and individual damages,” he added.
