Cyclist's death in Angul hit-and-run accident sparks tension, irate locals block NH

A bicyclist was killed after being hit by an unknown vehicle early on Saturday morning on National Highway 55 at Kanjara near Angul under Jarapada police limits.

The deceased has been identified as Sabit Pradhan, a local resident.

As per reports, Pradhan was riding a bicycle on the Highway when an unknown vehicle hit him between 5am and 6am, killing him on the spot.

Agitated locals blocked the highway near Kanjara demanding compensation for the family of the deceased. Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the Highway due to the blockade.

Upon being informed, the police reached the spot and tried to pacify the crowd. They finally allowed the traffic to move after two hours of blockade following an assurance from the police that the family of the deceased will be compensated appropriately.

The police have launched a probe into the case to apprehend the vehicle which ran away after hitting Pradhan.
