Cuttack village in mourning after pregnant woman’s suspicious death, family alleges murder
Tension gripped Nuapatana village under Tigiria police limits after the suspicious death of a pregnant woman on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Kalpana Dutta, a resident of the village. According to her father, Kalpana was allegedly forced to consume poison, leading to her untimely death.
Acting on the complaint, Tigiria Police detained her husband and father-in-law for interrogation and have started an in-depth investigation into the case.
Kalpana, who had been married for nine years, is survived by her seven-year-old daughter. Police officials said the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem and forensic reports are received.
“My daughter was tortured by her in-laws. They would even beat her up. I could do nothing as I had married her off. Today morning, they informed me that my daughter was ill and asked me to come to the hospital. When I reached, my daughter’s father-in-law fell at my feet and asked me to save him. On the other side, my daughter was lying dead in the hospital. I heard her sister-in-law crying and telling something. However, she stopped after seeing me,” alleged Kashinath Behera, the victim’s father.
