Cuttack Railway Station roof collapses

A portion of the under-construction roof at Cuttack Railway Station collapsed today, causing panic among passengers and workers present on the platforms.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred around noon when the construction work over Platforms 1 and 2 was in progress. The falling debris from the roof and sections of the upper shed that crashed onto the tracks have led to disruptions in train movements. Several trains are reportedly running behind schedule as railway authorities assess the situation and clear the affected areas.

As per preliminary reports no casualties have been officially reported so far.

Commuters have been advised to check the latest updates on train timings before heading to the station, as services are expected to remain partially delayed until full restoration work is completed.

Soon after the incident, the East Coast Railway authorities confirmed that "During Station Redevelopment works at Cuttack Railway Station, some construction activity was being carried out with adequate safety precautions. Unfortunately, at 1545 hrs, an old wall collapsed onto the platform, temporarily hampering train movement on Platforms 1 & 2."

"There has been no injury or casualty reported in this incident. Restoration work is already in progress, and the lines are expected to be cleared within 45 minutes," the rail authorities maintained.

Choudwar-Cuttack MLA, Souvic Biswal, said, "The manner in which the incident happened is very difficult to accept. Due to the blessings of Lord Jagannath, no casualties have been reported. I would like to request the railways to investigate the lapses and clarify the reasons behind the mishap."
