The issue of back-to-back power disruptions at some departments and lack of water supply at Cuttack SCB Medical College and Hospital has now provided an opportunity for the Opposition parties to corner the Odisha government, which claims to have undertaken measures to upgrade the premier health institution into a world-class facility.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday said "Earlier incidents of treatment under candlelight and other means used to be reported from rural pockets of the state. But now similar scenes are witnessed at the state’s major health institution. Hence, the Odisha Chief Minister, Health Minister, and Energy Minister should tender their resignations on moral grounds."

“Three days back, there was no power supply at the Medicine department, Regional Diagnostic Centre, mortuary, and others. There was also no water supply at the hospital. This shows how things are at the SCB medical,” said BJP spokesperson, Manoj Mohapatra.

According to Mohapatra, there was power outage at the SCB medical for over six hours yesterday as well. A day after the entire hospital went without power supply for over 24 hours, there was an acute water crisis at the hospital on Monday.

This caused numerous problems for the patients and their attendants at various departments, the BJP alleged.

Meanwhile, the hospital and the concerned govt authorities could not be contacted over the allegations leveled by the BJP.
