Cuttack Collector accused of ‘misusing power to register land in own name' 

The president of the Cuttack unit of Congress, Manas Choudhury on Saturday accused district collector, Bhabani Shankar Chayani of changing a Khasmahal-category land to Gharabari and registering it in his own name.

Addressing the media, Choudhury targeted Chayani and accused the Collector of misusing his powers.

“At a time when the common people are suffering and not able to register their name in the land records due to problem in changing the land category, the Collector has misused his powers to convert the land type,” the Congress leader alleged.

While displaying the Khasmahal land records of Collector’s land at Unit-13 in Chandinchowk area, Choudhury said, “I had applied to change the land category in 2003, but, I could not succeed.”

On the other hand, Cuttack Collector Chayani said as a government employee all his property statement is with the government.

“You all are aware that every government employee submits his/her property statement with the government. As I have not heard the allegations directly, I cannot comment on the matter,” Chayani said.
