Odisha Health Minister gheraoed in Cuttack
Contractual workers of Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer in Cuttack gheraoed Odisha Health Minister Niranjan Pujari demanding regularisation of their jobs on Thursday.
Pujari had to face the unsavoury situation during his visit to the hospital to attend the general body meeting.
As per reports, the contractual workers of the hospital staged a protest on the premises of the hospital when Pujari was attending the meeting. However, when the minister came out from the meeting hall, the agitated workers gheraoed him for nearly 15 to 20 minutes and put forth their demand of job regularisation.
Eventually, the minister was cordoned out of the hospital premises by the police and the security officials. The minister was even found scurrying away from the agitators.
As per the contractual workers, the State government has announced that services of all the contractual workers have been regularised. However, paramedical staff and nursing assistants of the hospital are still working as contractual workers. They have put forth their demand several times before the Director of the hospital, but it has fallen on deaf ears.
After getting frustrated and with no alternative way in sight, the contractual workers gheraoed the minister to put forth their demands.
